Another question, please.  I recently had the 24 hour pH test and was told my acid content was high.  The doctor has ordered another endoscopic exam on me.  It will be my fourth one since May 6. Why would he order this, again so soon?  I also have ulcers and a stricture.  My regular gastro doctor sent me to Duke and that is when the 24 hour pH test was done.  I am very frustrated that he wants another endo done.  I haven't talked with the doctor he sent a letter asking me to schedule.  Also, when I had the pH test another test was done at the same time and I was told I virtually had no muscle to keep acid from coming up.  Does this have anything to do with the motility test?  I ask because he told me the motility test was normal.  If it does I wonder why I am getting conflicting answers.  Thank you!
Dear Monica,
I can only speculate  why your gastroenterologist wants to repeat your endoscopy. It could be because there is a discrepancy between the findings on the motility and 24 hr pH study or because he needs more biopsies (tissue samples) from the lower esophagus or to confirm the presence or absence of Helicobacter pylori infection. Your gastroenterologist  may be considering sending you for surgery and wants to make sure that your work-up is complete or he or she may want to consider changing your medical treatment.  Nevertheless, the best thing to do is to ask your gastroenterologist for the reason.
