Dear Renee,

Gastrointestinal perforation. If a complication should occur, surgery may be required to
correctCorrect (new formula) the problem. Death is extremely rare. Complications are reported to occur at a rate of approximately one or two cases every two to three thousand cases (less than 1%). Small tissue samples called biopsies are commonly taken during this procedure. Sedation is commonly given during the procedure to keep you comfortable. The endoscopist will usually give you enough sedation so that you can tolerate the procedure while monitoring your vital signs. You should not be aware that a biopsy is being taken and it will not further damage your gastrointestinal lining. The areas quickly heal. It may help to speak to other patients who have undergone this procedure, keeping in mind that someone elses experience may be different than yours. Good luck with your endoscopy. I hope you find this information helpful.
