Re: GERD vs dysmotility

Re: GERD vs dysmotility

HI doc, I have a question. I had upper GI Barium and was told by the radiologist that I'm having a problem with my MOTILITY and said a couple of calcium channel blockers could cure it. When I went back to my family Physician, he told me that the test resulted to PRESBYESOPHAGUS . He just said it's chronic and it will take time for me to be cured but never given me anything at all. I told him I was told by the radiologist to take calcium channel blockers so that leads him to refer me to a gastroenterologist.

I went to gastroenterologist and told her my symptoms: globus sensation, dyspepsia, left upper backache, sometimes diff breathing. She told me to take Prilosec for two weeks and suspected GERD. I said I have no heartburn and I was told that sometimes there's no heartburn on GERD. So I went back after 2 weeks. My dyspepsia was relieved by prilosec but still have the other symptoms especially the backache and I could feel a tickling sensation a little far down from my  left armpit( I think a nerve or muscle connected to LES?). I told her about that and she said nothing and scheduled me to have an upper endoscopy. I asked about the presbyesophagus and was told not to worry about it (I should worry I'm only 31 yrs old) and I have no reason to take calcium channel blockers. I'm also  paying a co pay for 40$  every visit and just talking to her for less than 5 mins and felt never received a proper care?

Right now, I haven't gone back for my endoscopy. I cancelled it coz I have to change my health insurance and I feel like I don't trust my specialist as well. That's the hardest part to do, finding the best doctor that would cure me. My insurance is not as good as the last one so I'm a bit scared that I might spend more now.

Do you think I should change my specialist? Are my symptoms close to GERD or to Dysmotility? I know you will tell me to go for endoscopy and ph monitoring but it's not easy to have that especially in this economic crisis. I'm so confused.

Thank you.
