Dear Vic,
Unfortunately, the history that you provide does not provide any clues as to the cause of your symptoms.  You do not provide your age or information regarding other concurrent or previous illnesses that would allow us to develop a list of possible explanations for your symptoms.  You should know that there are a number of symptoms that we consider worrisome and usually lead to investigations.  Loss of appetitie, weight loss, vomiting (with or without blood), fever, chills , change in bowel pattern and jaundice are among the symptoms that will lead to an expedited evaluation.
I disagree with Dr. Boni (who is not a member of the team of physicians providing answers in this Forum).  You should not be rushed into an endoscopy unless there is compelling evidence that your symptoms are related to disease of the esophagus, stomach or duodenum.  One of the reasons for the high cost of health care in the U.S. is that many tests are done which do not have a reasonable probability of providing information relevant to the problem being investigated.  IF your symptoms suggest ulcer disease, then an endoscopy may be warranted.  However, endoscopy will not be of benefit if detailed questioning suggests that your problem is due to colonic or pancreatic disease.  A detailed history is necessary before recommending tests.
This information is presented for educational purposes only.  always consult your personal physician for specific medical issues.
