Rectal Bleeding

by Cecil, May 27, 2001 12:00AM
I have had bright red bleeding from my rectum for two mornings in a row after a bad case of diarrhea two nights ago after eating in a resturant. I am a 43 year old woman, and have had bouts of constipation and hemmoriods all my life. I started taking metuamucil nightly 5 months ago and this has helped tremendously. But, could this be too much fiber? Could I have torn something to make me bleed when I had the diarrhea? I went 5 0r 6 times that night. I did not bleed till next morning though when I went to have another bowl movement. How long should I wait till going to doctor? Will it heal on its own if it is a tear?

I would cut back on the fiber intake. Its all to easy to overdo it. It is difficult to heal properly under such conditions, almost impossible if you have diabetes complications.

Over the long term, constant (constant key word here) inflammation and bleeding could predispose the tissue to something more serious

I would see a doctor (re: specialist) to discuss your options

I am only 21 and I let the bleeding go on for almost a year and now I am seeing a specialist who thinks I might have Chrones's Disease! Don't wait. Let me know how it turns out!
