Rectal bleeding after holding bowel movement

I was on a train with no bathroom for over an hour yesterday and had a horrible stomach ache.  i had to hold in the bowel movement the entire time until i got to the station. It was very painful and i felt a bunch of air being pushed in to my system.
Since I got home I've been in and out of the bathroom with stomach cramps and rectal bleeding and clots, and only a small amount of actual feces coming out. I feel like I have a lot of gas built up but gas removal tablets dont seem to be helping at all.

I know I should probably go to the doctor, but to be brutally honest i'm horrified... any advice on a way to help myself at home?!

Do seek medical advice.  Rectal bleeding is never normal and should always be investigated. For more background type in rectal bleeding to google and click onto one of the many sites that describe this condition - the Medicinenet site is particularly informative.  You will then be better informed when you meet your doctor.

Why are you horrified?  Are you afraid of the possible underlying condition?  Answer - seek medical advice.  Or are you afraid/embarrassed about the fact that the bleeding originates at your "rear end"??  Answer - the doctors are used to this and will have seen it all before.  If you were vomiting blood you would surely seek medical help and the same course of action must surely follow for bleeding ex another of the body's orifices.

Make the appointment NOW.

Oh, and this has also happened before.. maybe a year ago. I had to hold a bowel movement at that time as well, cant remember why and when I came home I had the same problem. This time there's significantly more blood though.
A little worried. :[
