I suggest that you type in "rectal bleeding" to google/yahoo etc and you should find several medical websites (some from prestigious hospitals) that explain all the symptoms/possible causes/treatments etc etc.
Causes can be minor (such as haemhorroids/anal fissure etc) right through to the more sinister reasons - but cancer only becomes more relevant on/after the age of ~40. You don't state your age but, from your comments about your pregnancy, I am hoping that you are "on the younger side" such that cancer is unlikely.
However, do undergo all the various tests and, if your doctor says "upon consideration, I think it is likely to be an anal fissure - or similar" then do insist on a colonoscopy unless the diagnosis is certain and not just "presumed". You deserve the maximum possible reassurance.
One of my Wife's uncles died about ten years ago because he ignored the onset of rectal bleeding (=colon cancer in his case) until it was too late. The doctors said "if only you had come to us sooner........". OK he was older than you are - but don't let this happen to you....
Good luck

PS - my own experience in this "sector" was torrential diverticular bleeding which required a total colectomy four years ago.
