Rectal bleeding

I am a 47 yera old female and I have discovered blooding in my faeces. I noticed it first 10 days ago before the time of the month and thought it was related. Now that has passed I have noticed it again. It is streaky red blood which leaves a small mark on the toilet tissue too. I will cal the doctor for an appointment on Monday but tillthen have you any advice?
