Recurrent C. diff Treament from Mayo Clinic

by photographer51, Jan 22, 2009 12:02PM
This is the LATEST (December 2008) treatment recommended by Mayo Clinic for recurrent C. diff:
Vancomycin 125 mg. 4x/day for 2 weeks; then add and OVERLAP with the Vancomycin the probiotic
Sacchromyces boulardii, 1 tablet, 2x/day, for 2 weeks.  Then discontinue the Vancomycin WITHOUT
tapering, continuing the probiotic, and chase it with Xifaxan for 2 weeks, 3 tablets per day.  Then stop
the Xifaxan and continue the S. boulardii indefinitely.
They are seeing a 90% success rate with this treatment regimen.  I AM HOPEFUL!  I had C. diff recur
for a whole year, and so far have been a week without recurrence and off of all antibiotics!!

This discussion is related to recurrent C diff want gone, not treated.
