Results of UGI and small bowel follow thru - what does it mean?
I have posted here several times trying to resolve my problem but no one (not even the doctors can tell me what is wrong). Anyhow, I'll skip the long history other than it has been 16 months of hospital stays, sinus surgery, tonsil removal, test after test after test and medication after medication.
Most symptoms HAVE gotten better but I'm still not right. They are trying to determine the cause of my stomach pain and loss of appetite. ANyhow, I was diagnosied with severe gastritis and lesions in my stomach after being scoped. I have been given 3 months of Carafate and taking Prilosec twice a day.
I am contantly rifting without any control over it. I still have a "bubble" in my throat
when I swallow liquid (food is not nearly as bad).
Most recent test was a Upper GI with small bowel follow-thru. My gastrologist said they found nothing abnormal other than a "small pocket" in the esophagus
so it was more a GI Problem adn believes it was caused by acid? (I've had several, several, several scopes done over the past 16 months and the last one in August is the only one that said I had any form of acid. I was previously told I had a mild case of gastritis back in April, but not given any further treatment for it) He believes if I stay on the Carafate and the PPI that is should resolve while the Gastrologist said it will never go away./
WHAT IS IT? A pouch, a mucus membrane, or this diverticulum (which I believe is some kind of pouch but nothing I can find relates to my symptoms)
Does anyone have any experience with this? What is the treatment?
I believe what you are describing is a diverticulum. This may be of help: http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec02/ch012/ch012f.html
A diverticulum is a 'pocketing' of the wall. In other words, an 'out-pouch.' While some diverticulum can cause issues, others produce no symptoms at all. Depending on exactly where the diverticulum is, it may coincide with some specific symptoms - check the merck information on that.
The diverticulum will not disappear - if it is a true diverticulum.
Mucous membrane basically means the lining of the organ you're looking at. So you're is the lining of the esophagus has 'pouched.'
