SORE THROAT

by BIL__0__0, Aug 17, 1998 12:00AM

I HAVE HAD A RATHER SLIGHT BUT PERSISTANT SORENESS IN MY THROAT. MOST OF THE TIME IT IS IN THE BACK OF MY THROAT BEHIND MY TOUNGE WHERE I IMAGINE MY TONSILS TO BE. SOMETIMES, HOWEVER, I GET A TIGHTNESS IN THE FRONT OF MY THROAT UNDER MY CHIN ON BOTH SIDES OF MY ESPHAGAS.( I CAN'T SPELL EITHER BUT YOU PROBABLY CAN'T HELP THAT) THIS HAS GONE ON FOR TWO YEARS. I HAVE MENTIONED IT TO MY FAMILY PHYSICIAN AT MY YEARLY PHYSICAL AND HE DID NOT SEEMED TOO CONCERNED. I DID ONLY MENTION IT WHEN ASKED AND SINCE THE PROBLEM IS USUALLY MINOR I REALLY DID NOT MAKE IT SOUND LIKE ANY PROBLEM. I ONLY ASK YOU NOW BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN WORSE DURING THE LAST WEEK WHILE I HAVE HAD A COLD.  SHOULD I BE MORE CONCERED???
  THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Dear Bill,
Your current throat pain may be related to the inflammation associated with an upper respiratory infection.  Causes of a sore throat that lasts two years include esophageal reflux, sinus problems and post nasal drip.  If your sympytom is not increasing in severity, investigation  at this time is probably no needed.
