Sandosatin for treatment of Pancreatitis

I am now being treated with sandosatin injections for acute pancreatitis.  This treatment has helped in the past and I would like information on haw it works.

pancreatitis is defined as inflammation of the pancreas, when one suffers from acute pancreastitis he will have elevated amaylse and lipase levels (enzymes).  sandostatin is a synthetic hormone that works by reducing inflammation of the pancreas and limiting its enzyme secretions therefore helping manage the disease.
