Scalding of esophagus with hot tea - swallow camera?

Scalding of esophagus with hot tea - swallow camera?

I've always enjoyed my tea scalding hot - I swallow it before it has a chance to even burn my mouth!

About two years ago, I accidentally swallowed a fine chicken bone which I felt scratching my esophagus as it went down.  I felt it not in front as I expected, but at the back just left of my right scapula.  It took some months before I could swallow anything without feeling a slight irritation there.

But now, the last 6 months or so I've been feeling that same irritation in the same spot when I swallow my tea scalding hot.  Actually, anything hot irritates the esophagus.  At first I tried stopping, but as I hate cold tea, I just carried on recklessly; but the last week or two I've realised I seriously have to stop my addiction...  So I haven't been eating or drinking anything hot (bummer!).  However, it doesn't feel any better.

I've also started drinking a magnesium/calcium supplement, and while I don't really have heartburn, it feels as if the furnace from below is irritating my esophagus even more.  I sometimes take a Rennie, but not often.

Can a doctor prescribe medication just from my description, or do I REALLY have to swallow a camera?  I'd rather not...

Any advice, please?
