Severe Abdominal Pain and Yellow Stools. Please Help!

by Prodigy926, May 28, 2009 02:38PM
I am going to start out with the fact that I have been ill on and off for the past 6 months.  Starting in December, I was having alot of burning type pain in my intestines. This was accompanied by constipation, diahrrea, loose stools and over all weakness. After a couple of months of being mis diagnosed and given countless amounts of different types of medication, A stool sample was taken. I had entamobea histolytica.  I am sure I somehow picked this up while in Mexico on numorous occassions.  Anyway, I was started on Flagyl treatment for 14 days. 500mg 3x daily.  After following orders from GI doctor, I was finished with my course. About 3 days after finishing the medication, I starting having very similar symptoms. Severe burning and pain in abdomen and just over all sick feeling.  The doctor put me back on Flagyl and reffered me to the CDC for further treatment. My infectious diseases doctor put me on Iodoquinol along side the flaygl. Flagyl was taken for 23 days along with 15 days of the Iodoquinol. Everything was fine while on the medication and things seemed to be getting better.  It has now been a month since I was on the medication and I have had nothing but trouble on and off. I was tested 3 different times for the parasite infection and it was negative. I have had tons of blood work, 2 ultrasounds and many doctor visit which everything is negative. Also have been on Nexium.

About a week ago, I started having chronic diaherrea. After about 4 days of that, I started getting a very dull, burning pain in the area behind my belly button which also radiates toward my pelvis.  When i push on the area, it hurts and can hear lots of fluid moving around. My stool is pure water and bright yellow with a strange smell..  I wake up at 5am and run to the bathroom. I have been in so much pain that all i can do is lay on my back which seems to make it a bit better. What is going on with me? Im tired of not getting any answers from doctors.

There are a variety of reasons for the symptoms.

Chronic diarrhea can be caused by infection, irritable bowel syndrome, or inflammatory bowel disease.  Obtaining a colonoscopy seems to be imperative at this point, to exclude inflammatory bowel disease.

I would also send the stools off for culture and analysis, as well as obtain blood antibody tests to exclude celiac disease.

If the tests continue to be negative, irritable bowel disease can be considered and treated for.  Antispasmodic agents or tricyclic antidepressants are drugs that can be discussed for management.
