Severe constipation with no cause. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

6 months ago I had a tetanus shot and I developed a bad infection that left half my arm paralyzed. The doctor prescribed me doxycycline for 10 days. My arm healed but by day 10 I could not keep food down. Ever since then I can go 20 days without a bowel movement. Prior to this I had a bowel movement 3 times per day. I am an avid runner and only consume organic unprocessed foods. Fiber, exercise and water are not the issue. I have visited 2 gastroenterologists and an internist and after countless exams and blood tests they can find nothing wrong. I am desperate!! The strongest prescription laxatives do NOT work. My abdomen is so distended it hurts to even sit. The doctors have started to ignore me saying it will pass. It has been 6 months and nothing!! Please help me!!!! I have consumed gallons of kefir, probiotics and yogurt and it does nothing. I got some herbs from a Chinese doctor, they worked for a week and then just stopped. I need help!!!! I was previously not much of a sweet eater, but I have noticed my desire for sweet things increase 1000 fold. When I do manage to have a bowel movement it has a white powdery coating to it. The doctors are absolutely useless. I am convinced they gave me the problem! PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! I am only 24 years old and this is ruining my life!!!!

I hope you got help. Sounds like the doxycyline not only wiped out your good intestinal flora but helped over populate your gut with gram negative/bad bacteria. Try a diet that starves the bad bacteria first and then repopulate the good. Otherwise the probiotic and such are just feeding the bad guys! The fastest way to fix this is not totally mainstream yet but the research supports it: a poop transplant! You get an enema of healthy poop from someone else and their bacteria restores your balance. Sounds gross but is saving lives.

There have been postings in Medhelp whereby sufferers of chronic constipation have, as a last resort, considered a total colectomy.  I am not saying that this is the right solution for you but you may wish to consult a fresh G.I. surgeon who can give you an opinion unprejudiced by doctors who may already have tried (unsuccessfully) to treat you.
