Has anyone else had sharp pains in the upper abdominal region AFTER having had the gallbladder removed?  I am wondering what that might mean.  Any ideas?

Yes we have.  Read down through the database.  I had my gall bladder removed 6 months ago and still having sharp pains in right side.  Have an appointment on the 31st for a consult on having an ERCP.  I'll keep you posted what happens.

HELLO,

yes, i'm experiencing pains on both my sides. this started about a week after having my gallbladder removed. iv'e already been back to the surgeon, he suspects it has something to do w/the muscles, but i don't think so!!! that's strange that everyone has problems from this surgery? i had a ct done but that was negative. you probably should get some tests done to make sure everything's alright. well, GOOD LUCK w/whatever u do!!!

hi started to have very bad pain in the middle of my stomach after my gallbladder was removed and that was 3 years ago i had CT done upper GI test done and every thing is normal they can't figure it out . it happens always in the morning i think that it might have something to do with my morning bile let down since bile is stored and made over night and because of no gallbladder to store it, the over amount of bile acid in my "duodeum" first part of the small intestine, may be causing this terriable pain.  as fast as it comes on  it sometimes lasts for an hour .  the pain is so bad that my stomach would get had as a rock till it was over. i started to take "bentyl" an anti spasmotic before bedtime and if i felt the pain come on a drink of  water would help too. it has to do with the acid in the bile that burns the intestine because of it stong concentration because of not having a gallbladder. but no dr can confirm it or do anything about it . if some knows more let me know  good luck!
