I had these symptoms last night but it felt so low like it was my uterus and the gurgle everytime. I'm 41 and was so sure I would need to go to hospital that I got up and had a shower!!! It stopped after about half an hour and hasn't come back
I know this is old, but it's the only thing I can find when I google my symptoms. This has been happening to me for as long as I can remember, but very few and far between. I have noticed the last few times were almost exactly a year apart. Always in August. I find it bizarre it only happens once a year. I ran it by my doctor and she had never even heard of symptoms like this only happening once a year. I get pain throughout my lower abdomen relieved by the gurgle on my left side. The cycle repeats for varying time frames, usually at least an hour. I usually always have a bowel movement at some point during the episode, but not always at the same time and not always diarrhea. I actually just had an episode yesterday (a little off schedule lol) but I only had two waves of pain and then had diarrhea a couple times and no more pain. Anyone ever find any answers?
Have any of you tried cutting meat out your diet? I kind of did it on accident because I lived with a vegetarian and the difference was so vast. I haven't looked back for almost 20 years.
I have the same issue. It started when I was 17. So painful I wanted to just die. The only thing that helped me was when I stopped eating meat. I go years without an episode now. I started eating seafood and it hasn't effected me. Ginger tea also helped during attacks.

I'm having same issues! I have gastroparesis--pacemaker on digestive track, no colon , or gallbladder. I have a j-pouch, and have had a complete hysterectomy. I believe it's a blockage from adhesions! -----could be dangerous!!! Get help!
Air / fluid / food can't get through....
Only through pockets! (That's what gurgle is)
See a rectal surgeon! GI's are not fimular with this! Upper/lowers and cat -scans will NOT show this! I've had several surgeries. Lord help us!
Feels like contractions! Pain off the chart! Ya'll described it to a T!

I too have been suffering with this type of pain for many years - Waves of pain that I have always though of as being like fireworks - the pain builds up and then explodes with the peak of the pain - the gurgle brings relief. My stomach is sore to touch. I also thought it might be linked to my menstrual cycle. When I was in my early 20's I had frequent occurrences which culminated in having my appendix removed. Turns out there was nothing wrong with the appendix and the extreme pain was still a mystery. I had a colonoscopy as Crohns disease was suspected and some ulcers were found but mostly everything looked normal. A few years went by without any reoccurrences (thought it might be over), but it's just started up again recently. Would love to find some relief ....
Update, Ladies!
The last two times this has happened to me, I've had a CT Scan in the ER and they found colitis throughout my entire small bowel (plus I had been passing blood once I actually went to the restroom, about 2 days after the onset of the episode). So it's safe to suggest that we all might be experiencing some kind of inflammation of the colon. The doctor suspects it could be a form of IBD, related to Crohn's Disease. During the less severe episodes, I usually use Fleet enema to force evacuation and Tramadol for the pain. However, when it gets really bad and I cannot evacuate, the ER is still necessary.
Who else has had any updates?
I am the same constant severe pain the gurgle does not relieve mine and it is often accompanied with sometimes severe sweating and dizzy spells the pain is most severe and uncomfortable as long as I can remember its been hell and no one has a clue what it is
So glad to have found someone else with the exact same symptoms as myself! Did u ever find out what was causing it & how to treat it? Would love some answers & a bit of relief!!
This is exactly what I have been experiencing since age 11, the intense waves at 3-min increments, relieved by the gurgle...used to think it was related to my menstrual cycle..but the gurgling suggests a gastric issue...and no doctors can identify the issue! One suggested it's just IBS, while other attribute it to ruptured ovarian cysts...the doctor tells my cysts in the ovaries do not affect IBS though, so I am at a loss...for me though, attacks are usually painful enough to cause dry retching and slight fever..and usually last 48 hrs, only alleviated by morphine. It sounds like our bodies are having a similar issue, whatever it may be...good luck!
I think I may be experiencing the same thing that you are. I get a very sharp stomach pain followed usually by a very loud gurgle in my lower right abdomen. Sometimes it does not gurgle, however. And those pains are more severe. It seems to me like gas is trying get through, but cannot. I have been fairly successful in eliminating gluten from my diet and that has really helped quite a bit. Not sure if it is stopping the problem but it helps. Also, is there pain when you physically push on your lower right abdomen?
I don't think it's bowel obstruction. IBS or food sensitivity seem more likely. But if you are 40+, it might be a good excuse to get a colonoscopy. This test may sound unpleasant, but with the right meds to make you sleepy, it is an extremely useful test that could save you from getting colon cancer if they find any polyps. It could also diagnose diverticulosis and other conditions that are helpful to know about.
Well I dont normally have gas or constipation. I eat very healthy so I do eat some sweets that have "no sugar added" but contain sugar alcohols so that is a possibilty. I am concerned that it could be something like a bowel obstuction. I guess I should go see a physician but since it happens suddenly and goes away suddenly, I just haven't. It is very comparible to uterine contractions (during labor) because it starts as a sharp pain, then it subsides, but continues in intervals of about 3-4 minutes. The crazy part is the gurgling sound. The pains increases in intensity until I hear the gurgling sound and then it releases.
It sounds like gas, but the question is, what is causing the increase in frequency? Many abdominal symptoms are frustratingly nonspecific. It could be IBS for one. Gallstones or nonfunctioning gallbladder can cause constipation and other elimination changes. Using diet foods containing sugar alcohols caused terrible gas problems for me years ago. Having anxiety that causes one to swallow more air can increase gas intake.
You could try taking simethicone-containing OTC meds to reduce the gas. Phazyme is good because it doesn't have sugar alcohol or other ingredients that can cause problems for sensitive people.
