in Mexico, and have been here since the 23rd of Jan. Around 2 months ago my friends and I made the mistake of drinking bad water, which although boiled, was hardly boiled long enough, and shouldn't be used by foreigners even when boiled.
I've been sick for roughly 2 months, although for one of the weeks I was a lot better.
, constipation - when I did go, diarrhea - nausea, hot flushes
I was sick for roughly two weeks before we went to the Dr., who prescribed us the following:
Mitafar Nitazoxanida - in case of parasites (1 tablet 2x a day for 3 days)
Enterogermia - to help our intestines process (2x daily for roughly 5 days)
Ciprofloxacino - in case of a bacterial infection, only we got a generic brand, which is not so much "generic" as it is "similar", though I cannot find the name of it. (1 tablet 2x a day for 5 days)
During this week of the first medications, my stools were nothing but strange, snowflake-like things that floated on the surface. I found I wasn't going to the toilet that much, despite not taking anything to block me up. By the end of the week I began to go to the toilet and poo somewhat more solidly than before.
I had a week in which I was a lot better, and my poos returned almost to normal, although I was still doing a lot more than usual, but only in the mornings, and no more than twice a day. My eating habits had returned pretty much to normal.
However, one night I ate a potato bake covered in cheese and oil, drank 1 and a half beers, and ate Easter chocolate. The following morning I was sick in the toilet, and then I fractured my leg on the way to school
on the same day. I didn't think much of the diarrhea, as I didn't go that many times, it was more that it was more water than solid again. For a few days I cared more for my leg.
After these few days, realising that it wasn't going away, and having had a day of going to the toilet 12 times, I went to the hospital where they treated my leg. That morning I'd already gone 5 or 6 times. The Dr. took a stool sample and found that I'd no parasites, but a bacterial infection. Otherwise everything was normal. He warned me against the 'similar' drugs that we'd bought from a cheap drug store, and prescribed me with the following:
1. Ciproflox Tablets 500mg - 1 tablet every 12 hours for 5 days
2. Buscapina Compositum - 1 tablet every 8 hours in case of pain
3. Lomotil - 2 tablets initially, and then 1 after every liquid poo.
I took these tablets as directed, although with 2. and 3. only when it was necessary, as I've read things such as Lomotil can work against someone fighting a bacterial infection, and I only took 2. when I had pain, as I was already on painkillers for my leg.
These were takes over a course of 5 days. I began to feel better, and was eating better too. I thought I was so much better that I made the mistake of eating a cheese pizza, with chili flakes on it, for dinner on the last night of the medication. In the morning, I was sick again 5-6 times. Maybe more, I can't really remember.
I returned to the Dr. the same day to tell him that I was not better. He told me that the flora within my stomach must be quite damaged, and that I would need simply to wait it out as it repaired. He directed me not to eat anything with animal products. I do not ever plan to again...
He then pescribed me another course of Buscapina Compositum - 1 tablet every 8 hours in case of pain, and also an antidiarrheal called Hidrasec - 1 tablet every 8 hours for 5 days.
It's been three days since and I've seen no change in my poo. It continues to be watery or just water, and I go more than what is the normal amount every day. Averaging around 7 times, sometimes a little more. I've only had acute
pain once, otherwise there's been none at all. I've felt off a few times, not quite nausea, but similar.
Yesterday I went and bought the following natural medicines to try and assist in the process of getting better:
- zinc - for my immune system
- echinacea - as above
- Nutri Biotic (natural desinfectante): drops for my water that clean out the stomach
- acidophilus capsule form - to restore the good bacteria in my intestines
- chaparro amargo capsules - treat intestinal
amoebic infections
- chaparro tea - as above
- yakult
- what they call "suele" here, and it's an electrolyte drink from the pharmacy
- lactopriv B
Of these I am only currently taking (on Mum's advice):
- zinc - for my immune system
- echinacea - as above
- acidophilus capsule form - to restore the good bacteria in my intestines
- what the Dr. prescribed me - Buscapina Compositum - 1 tablet every 8 hours in case of pain, and also an antidiarrheal called Hidrasec - 1 tablet every 8 hours for 5 days.
This morning I have been awake for only 40 minutes or so and have been to the toilet twice already. All watery.
Please, please, what do people think? I'm stuck inside a lot of the time, and all of my friends got better on the first lot of medication. Do people think I should get another stool sample?
