Slightly elevated Alkaline Phosphatase level

Hello -

I'm a 41 yr old male - had recent blood work done - all values within range - except alkaline phosphatase level was 117 (upper range for this lab is 115).

Dr doesn't seem concerned at all - did some looking on the web and found most recommend just retesting in 6 months for otherwise healthy asymptomatic patients.

It's so close to the normal range I guess I won't worry - anyone have any experience with this number?

AF may be elevated in diseases of:
- liver,
- pancreas,
- bile duct,
- bones,
- parathyroid glands

http://www.drkaslow.com/html/alkaline_phosphatase.html

If it was liver, or bile duct, or pancreas disease, other enzymes like GGT, ALT, AST or pancreatic enzymes would be also increased.

So, it may be from kidneys or bones, but if you have no problems, it is hard to say anything. Like doctor said: re-check after few months, and you'll see than, if it increases further.
