A few weeks ago, I noticed small round white balls in my stool. I have diverticulosis so I am very careful about what I eat. Also, my stools have been mostly loose/runny and very odd smelling. I was on an antibiotic not long ago for a sinus infection.... Could it be a yeast infection? I also have internal hemorroids (hemorrhoids), so itching and swelling, are something I deal with all the time.
Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include dietary causes, infections, parasitic infestations etc. You may consider an evaluation by a primary care physician or a gastroenterologist to rule out infections as a cause. After a specific cause is identified, it can be managed accordingly.
Hope this is helpful.
I have noticed these little balls (<1mm) in my stool for quite some time. My curiosity got the best of me and I 'examined' several of them. Without exception, I found them to be mineral in nature. Crushing them produced a powdery/crystalline substance. I was surprised because I had anticipated that they would be waxy, which was not the case at all.
After studying and thinking about it, I believe that the most likely explanation is that these little balls are probably 'juvenile' gallstones, easily passed through the bile duct. I wouldn't be surprised if they were composed of cholesterol.
