Sphincter Of Oddi

In November 2009, I began sharp pain in my epigastric region and after further investigation, my doctor found that I needed to have my gallbladder removed. Surgery went fine and I felt great for several months. In May 2010, I began hurting the same exact way this time. After seeing several different doctors, I met with a GI doctor who told me that I had Type III Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction and scheduled me for a endoscopic sphincterotomy. The surgery went fine-he said when he measured the pressure that I had a pressure of 120 and that he "filleted" the muscle. When I left the hospital, I continued to have pressure in my epigastric region for a few weeks, then it finally eased up. Now it is back. My questions are: What is the next step? Can this procedure be performed twice? Could it be something new? Is this something that will keep happening from time to time? Please help!

Saw the Dr on the 15th, he wants me to have another ERCP and a specialist scan to check gallbladder emptying, before deciding on removing the gallbladder, so watch this space.

I was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago with SOD after a year of tryng to figure out what was going on. I had my gallbladder out in March and my sphincterotomy 3 weeks ago. I'm wondering the same thing about it coming back? So far so good, I was having attacks about once a week. I'm worried that it may come back?

I was diagnosed with the same condition, I had a my first shincterotomy in July and my second plus widening of the bile and pancreatic duct in December 2009.  I was symptom free for a while, however the pain has just started to come back again and my Dr is telling me I now need to have my gallbladder removed, he did say however that this may not actually releive my symptoms. Not sure if any of this helps but it seems you are having the same problems and the same treatment except in reverse.  I have read many posts from sufferers who have had the treatment you are having, who after some short term relief get their pain back, I guess I am really just trying to find out if I should carry on and have my operation.
