Still having pain

by Randyspee, Apr 21, 2004 12:00AM
I had colon surgery for diverticular disease. They removed 15" of my colon and my apendix. this surgery was in Sept 2003 and I still am having some pain in lower left side which radiates down into my left groin. Should I expect to still be having some pain from the surgery? Bowel movements are pretty normal although I do go from constipation and diarea (diarrhea) more than normal.

Typically 8 months after the surgery the pain should resolve.  If the pain continues, you may want to inquire if there is any new causes present or if there was a complication from the surgery.

An abdominal CT scan would be a reasonable first test to evaluate if there is a repeat flareup of diverticulitis, as well as any inflammatory colonic disease (i.e. colitis).  If negative, a colonoscopy can be considered for further evaluation.  These options can be considered with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
