Still no Diagnosis...

by schoolgirl601, Jun 17, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 31 yr. fem. Norm weight; endometriosis.
Month ago developed discomfort in my upper rt. quad.  Not painful, just annoying, sometimes in back.  Since it has remained.  Starts first thing in the morning and has woken me up at night twice.   Only laying down helps.  Bowel movements vary, between loose, normal, and some constipation, but the stools are never "Hard"  just some straining to get out.
Doctor ordered ultrasound of gall bladder, liver, Xrays of right chest, spine, ribs; returned fine.  Doctor ordered CT of abdomen with Iv and oral contrast.
The results returned "The limited view of the colon demonstrates limited distention distally, with a question of wall thickening involving the distal transverse colon and descending colon.  There are also multiple subcentimeter ileocolic lymph nodes, non specific. No free air or free fluid is identified.
IMPRESSION:  Nondistention of the distal transverse and proximal escenging colon giving the appearance of wall thickening.  An inflammatory or infiltrative process cannot be completely excluded.  "  Then at the top the radiologist scribed, "Soem infection possible."
Dr. ordered CBC with diff, perscribed antibiotics.  All blood results returned normal as well.  He is "pretty sure" it's diverticulious, but the discomfort is on the opposite side and never had fevers, intense pain, etc.
     What's wrong with me???

You have had a comprehensive evaluation for your symptoms.

The CT findings are suggestive of inflammation, which can be due to an infection or inflammatory bowel disease.  Antibiotics are appropriate to treat this.

If the symptoms continue, I would consider a colonoscopy further evaluate the inflammation.  Biopsies can be considered to rule out inflammatory bowel disease.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician, or in conjunction with a GI physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
