It means that the amount of bile that is being ejected from your gallbladder/bile duct into the duodenum is quite a bit away from what would be considered normal. When this happens, some individuals can experience right upper quadrant discomfort and changes in bowel habits. Low ejection fractions can also be accompaned by gallstones in some individuals although in others gallstones can be absent.

Depending upon what you're experiencing, your doctor may recommend the removal of your gallbladdder.

Last week I had a hida scan after having every other test done 2 determine what my pain and diarrea (diarrhea) was from. It turned out my gallbladder was only functioning at 8%. It was the last test I had and it proved to be the right one. I had my gallbladder removed  3-02-09 and I am doing so much better. I was in the hosp. for 6 days before they could find out what the problem was. Im recovering from the surgery but I feel  that without this test they would not have found the source of my problem.
