Stomach Surgery Complications

Stomach surgery complications:
A friend of mine recently told me that their mum had preventative surgery for stomach cancer two years ago. Since then however, she is unable to carry out any relatively moderate physical activity as she feels incredible pain in her stomach. Sometimes the pain begins without her even doing physical activity and makes her incapable of performing normal activities.
What could be the possible reasons for this and how can she correct it?
