Stomach virus and elevated bp

Has anyone else had elevated bp, lightheaded ness during a stomach virus? I've had those symptoms for the past five days and severe flushing yesterday. Just odd to me that elevated bp would come with a stomach virus if I am dehydrated it should go down right?

Thank you for your response.  The battle of poop and puke have now passed, and my bp is back to where it was before the sickness.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, yes volume depletion should cause hypotension, low blood pressure. Sometimes anxiety and pain can cause an elevation of pressures. Check with your doctor to rule out hypertension.     Blood pressure increases due to peripheral arterial spasm and the heart has to pump against this increased resistance, so the pressure increases. Don't add additional salt in your diet. Exercise regularly and practice relaxation techniques to lower your stress levels. This will bring down pressure values. Regards.
