Stomach wind problem

by CRC, Aug 02, 2002 12:00AM
My 23 year old daughter cannot 'burp'.  She is unable to bring up wind after eating food, or even after drinking carbonated drinks.  Strangely enough, I was not really aware of this problem until she mentioned it a while ago, but sure enough I cannot ever remember her doing so.  She has always been slim, and used to still be able to eat a hearty meal, but over the last year or two she says she can't eat a whole meal because she feels stuffed full quite quickly.  I think she has lost a bit of weight recently as well.  She definitely does not have any other form of eating disorder - she is very fond of food, but just can't eat much due to the 'wind' problem.

Any idea what causes this - and is it, in fact, a problem?  I worry that this may cause stomach ulcers, or similar, in future.

Talk to your doctor about your concerns just to give yourself some peace of mind. I am not much of a burper, very rarely does it happen. Does your daughter still pass wind out of the other end? There are a few things i have noticed over the years when my dad was in the hospital for GI problems and also when my husband was in the hospital also for GI reasons...even the patients in the beds around them would be asked this question by all of their doctors every day....Are you passing gas (from the end below). This seemed to be a very important question and one of their main concerns....
Talk to your doctor as it sounds like your daughter's gas is bloating in her stomach....
take care

I had the same experience when I was in the hospital.  One of the first things the doctor said was "we want you to be passing wind"  I guess that's important to make sure everything is moving as it should!
