Stretta Procedure

by mariehunter59, Jan 13, 2002 12:00AM
I am a 44 year old woman diagnosed with acid reflux disease.  I have been taking Nexium with pretty good results but don't want to have to take this for life.  Does anyone know anybody who has had the Stretta procedure done, what it entails and does it work?

I, TOO, LOOKED UP THIS PROCEDURE ON THE INTERNET. IT GIVES A MAP WITH THE STATES THAT ARE NOW CURRENTLY PRACTICING THIS PROCEDURE. IT SOUNDS VERY PROMISING. I JUST TYPED IN STRETTAPROCEDURE INTO THE SEARCH ENGINE AND GOT A GOOD DEAL OF INFO. SOME OF THE STATES I RECALL WERE TEXAS, CALIF.,FLORIDA, NEW YORK, R.I. PLUS ALOT MORE. I THINK THE PROCEDURE HAS BEEN IN PRACTICE SINCE MAY, 2000. THERE WAS ALSO PATIENT AND DR. TESTIMONIALS TO THE PROCEDURE. I LIVE IN CONN. BUT NOTHING HERE SO FAR. WOULD DEFINATELY CONSIDER IT AS AN OPTION. WAY LESS INVASIVE THAN A NISSAN FUNDOPLICATION. SEEM TO HAVE HAD GREAT RESULTS. GOOD LUCK AND LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE ABLE TO GATHER ANY MORE INSIGHT. THANKS

I RECENTLY READ ABOUT ANOTHER NEW PROCEDURE CALLED THE ENDOCINCH. LESS INVASIVE. SUPPOSEDLY THEY USE A TYPE OF ENDOSCOPE AND PUT THAT DOWN YOUR THROAT AND THEN SEW THE VALVE AT THE END WITH LITTLE PLEATS. I GUESS THE THEORY IS TO TIGHTEN THAT SPHINCTER TO KEEP THE ACID DOWN. YOU MAY WANT TO EXPLORE THAT ALSO. GOOD LUCK
