Subtotal Gastrectomy - What Qs should I ask? Danger of this surgery?

I was diagnosed with severe anemia - on the verge of needing transfusions. Colonoscopy was clear. Endoscopy revealed extremely large polyps in the mid-section of the stomach. Biopsy shows non-cancerous. However they are bleeding. Its not severe - but apparently has been ongoing for awhile, thus the anemia. In addition, polyps were seen on my Gallbladder. Have family history of gallbladder/liver cancer.
Have been on warfarin due to Afib. Warfarin has been stopped at the moment.
Have been on prevacid for several years due to GERD. Could prevacid have caused the polyps?
More importantly:
1. I understand this type of surgery is very risky. Is this true?
2. How do you go about finding a good surgeon? (My gastroenterologist recommended one, but how do I know he's good)?
3. What types of questions should I be asking?
4. How would I go about finding a second opinion - again from someone who has solid experience and exceptional results with this type of surgery?
5. Is this the same type of surgery folks do for weight loss? Have heard horror stories and am pretty scared about this.
6. What is the typical surgical experience? Recovery time?
7. Is it true that I can lead a full life, eating healthy (just smaller amounts - probably grazing) after this?

I am not a surgeon, so my insight into this question is limited.
To answer your questions:
1) It is unlikely that the Prevacid would have caused the polyps.
2) The complication rate is related to the experience of the surgeon. Studies show a mortality rate of 1% and a non-fatal complication rate of 9%.
3) I would suggest going to a major academic medical center to have this major procedure done. Another opinion should be considered to ensure you are totally comfortable with the treatment plan.
4) Anything that is on your mind. This can include post-op course, possible complications, rate of complications, length of hospital stay, rehabilitation time, when to resume diet etc.
5) This is not the same surgery as a gastric bypass.
6, 7) I cannot answer this question since I am not a surgeon. This should definitely be discussed with your personal physician.
Followup with your personal physician is essential.
