I am suffering from a smell that I have not been able to lose for over 9 years now. I have no idea what it is, because I can't notice it. But everywhere I go, people cover their nose or change seats. I can't work in an office for too long without causing noticeable discomfort for the people around me. Now I teach, but if I am in a small room with my students I feel very sorry for them. Also, most students don't sit in the front row with me teaching, but many do for other teachers.
I have tried all kinds of things to get rid of the smell. Originally I thought I had bad B.O. under my armpits, so I tried powerful deodorant - but that did not work. I changed my diet several times, did fasting, colon cleansing, herbs, teas, you name it - but all no effect. I even did a colonoscomy but it turned up nothing. Doctors who I have talked to really don't know what to say when I am brave enough to mention my symptoms.
I have done lots of internet research about what I could have, but I can't narrow it down all by myself. I have heard that some people are unable to break down certain chemicals and thus produce foul smells. Others might have bad bacteria or fungus in their stomach (but I doubt it's this because I've tried everything to fight that). I have even heard of leaking gas from IBS, which could also be me. Oral infections, etc. The trouble with all of my findings is that when I talk to a doctor about it, they don't know what to diagnose or test for. All I get is just general advice like eat well, exercise, and stay away from certain foods or drinks.
Can anyone help lead me to a right direction?
