Surgery or not?

by ninanbh, Jun 19, 2001 12:00AM
My sister was diagnosed with diverticulitis after being hospitalized for severe abdominal pain.  They then discovered the ruptured diverticula. She was in the hospital for one week.  She ate or drank nothing.  She is now home going through the healing process.

Question #1:
What should she eat at this healing stage and how much.  Until she heals I feel she should be very careful of what and how much she should eat.  And how long will it take for the rupture to heal?  Her doctors contradict each other on these issues.

Question #2:
Surgery or not?  Does anyone have any insight on surgery?  They keep pushing her for surgery but do they know how badly her colon is damaged?

Please help!!! Thank you
