Swallowing Difficulty

by sunnygal, Aug 16, 2002 12:00AM
Hi.  I am 25 (f) with a history of 10 years of bulimia.  I have been recovered for 2 years now.  I have documented acid reflux (24 hr ph probe).  EGD showed diffuse esophageal spasms and possible cricopharynx spasms.  I had a manometry done 3 weeks ago, showed LES pressure normal at 15mmHg, LES relaxation was normal.  Manometry of the esophageal body: 10 swallows, all were peristaltic, 4 were slightly hypotensive with slightly amplitude.  UES resting pressure was slightly low at 40 mmHg.  Slightly lowe amplitude peristaltic contractions seen.

Does this explain why I have difficulty swallowing and tightness in my throat?  Is the difficulty swallowing more likely a result of the 10 years of bulimia, or some other medical (neurological or other) problem?

Thanks.

I really can't offer you much help but I did want to show you some support and say that i was happy to read you are recovering from your bulimia. If you are having esophagel spasms that may present a problem with swallowing and tightness. Talk with your doctor about any concerns to give yourself some peace of mind.
I wish you well, take care :)
