Swallowing problem

I need some help before I go nuts. It started 8 months ago when I started to get this lump sensation in my throat. It would just not go away so I was sent to an ENT that told me that I am stressed and it will go away. Went home and after 1 months went back to the doctor bacause i started having some chest discomfort, kind of like heartburn but just sort of mild ache all the way down my esophagus. He gave me prilosec and I have been taking that ever since. My lump or globus sensation is still there constantly and the achy esophagus has now become sore when swallowing food. I can feel the food slowely go down with a sore feeling. The globus is driving me crazy and the soreness is making me scared that I have something worse. I have cut down fatty foods and try to eat small portions and soft foods. But it is not getting better. Is there anybody with the same problem and has found out what to do?

i would consider cervical sponylitis especially if you use a pc alot
i have exactly the sam esymptoms: i was told it was acidity from stomach but when i was tested they discovered no acidity in the throat or oesphagus
i have found exercise, stopping using pc when possible and physio alleviate the problem

Thank you so much for responding. I feel like I am the only one and it is so hard to find stuff online about this. I will do all of the above ASAP and will call my doctor again on Monday. Only we know our bodies best and I know something is wrong and needs to be fixed before it gets worse.
Thank you again!!!!!! :)

Did this advice work? I have this problem, as well.
Hello forsman54. Welcome to the site. It works best to start your own post. They call this a globus sensation. Have you seen your doctor about it? Here is a list of possible causes: pharyngeal inflammatory conditions
gastroesophageal reflux disease
psychological factors, such as stress or anxiety
abnormal upper esophageal sphincter function
rare tumors
thyroid disease
previously lodged objects

Tell us more about your situation specifically in a fresh post and we'll try to help.

Hi. You are having the exact same problem that I had a few years ago. My doctor did an endoscopy and found that I had an esophageal stricture and he stretched it...instant relief!!! He did say that it could take two or three times of stretching it but so far so good. I hope you can find a solution to this problem. I would find another doctor if the one you have won't try to help you. Good luck.

Meena, go back to the doc and ask to be tested for H. pylori. If that comes back negative, ask the doc to do an upper endoscopy to look at the lining of your esophagus and stomach and take biopsies to find out what the heck is going on.

If the H. pylori comes back positive, get treated and continue with the acid suppressors. Also take a look at a a GERD diet. You can find a representative example at gicare.com.
