Sweeling inThroat-excessive coughing & aspiration

I have MS and occasional trouble swallowing.

One evening 2 weeks ago, I started coughing excessivesly triggered by the feeling that there was something in my throat right at the entrance to my lungs.  It is an aspiration-type cough.  Automatic, quick, dry-triggered by something touching the entrance to the lung.

Within a day or so, I developed a severe upper respiratory infection and cold which took 10 days to get over.  I coughed a dry, heaving cough excessively throughout the cold, but chocked it up to a symptom of the cold.

But, then the cough and swollen feeling returned-after the cold subsided.

Tonight, I started coughing 3 hours ago and cannot stop-or sleep.  It feels like there is something swollen in my throat right at the entrance to my lungs.  Either it is triggering my coughing or saliva is dripping off of it into my lungs.  I taste a little blood occasionally.

Am I crazy?  Should I be seeking help?  Or just hope it calms down on its own.
