Throat gurgles and hiccups

I am 53  and have had acid reflux for a couple years. Also fibromyalgia.  I have been taking omezaprol for a year now.  I have never burped and after almost every meal I have the hiccups.  About 6 months ago I started the throat gurgling.  I don't do it when I get up in the morning but as the day progresses it gets worse and in the evening I am doing it constantly.  Sometimes I feel like air is trapped in my throat. I do not get much relief from the gurgling or hiccups.  I read on a blog that if you stick you finger down your throat and press on your younger you can force a burp out. I do that a lot.  That is the only relief.

I have noticed lately that when I eat meat or a real fatty food that it isn't happening.  We had frozen pizza tonight and no gurgling. I even drank Pepsi.  One night I had jack Daniels ribs and pulled chicken. And no gurgling.  It's very strange.  When it is happening sometimes it is a growl and other times it is gurgling. It sounds like there is liquid in my throat.  Sounds bubbly. If I drink down some warm water it seems to get better.

I am wondering if this can be caused by a glutton allergy?

I believe your right. I did try the betaine before a high protein meal and I hardly had any gurgling and hiccups. I went through a whole bottle pretty quick.   And I would like to go off the omezaprole but do not know how. I am afraid of the acid reflux. One time I started to take the omezaprole every other day and the acid reflux came back.  I guess I could call the doctor and have him lower the dose to try to wean myself off.  I am taking 40 mg now.  I do not know if your burp test will work for me as I have never burped.

My mother had severe GERD/LPR. She had low stomach acid (took an hour to burp after the stomach acid home test below) and that was enough for me to take her off nexium and put her onto betaine HCL with pepsin supplements to increase stomach acid and digestive enzyme supplements to improve digestion.

She no longer suffers GERD or LPR and her long list of health problems also went away one by one. There is a long of reasons for low stomach acid such as aging, stress, eating too much, eating junk food, h pylori bacteria, zinc deficiency to name a few reasons.

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, not baking powder) test...

The following steps help to determine your stomach's acidity:

1. Perform this test first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (before
eating or drinking)

2. Dissolve ¼ teaspoon of baking soda into an 8 oz glass of cold water

3. Drink the solution and start timing

4. Record the time until you first burp up gas

5. Perform this test for 5 consecutive days (or longer) at the same time each day to give a better estimation of your stomach’s acidity

Time until first burp:

If you burp immediately and excessively your stomach acid level is probably too high

Under 2 min: indicates normal acidity

2 - 5 min: low normal acidity

Over 5 min: possible hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid)

No burping indicates possible achlorhydria (no stomach acid).
