to dependency so it requires gradual increase over time. Just like a beer can give you a buzz then two years later it takes 2 or 3 beers. Opium slows the muscle contractions
(peristalsis) in the intestines and thus slows transit time and also reduces secretions. Is your IBD predominantly diarrhea or constipation? I'm assuming diarrhea because tincture will make your more constipated of course. I take opiates after having my colon and rectum removed at age 16 due to Ulcerative Colitis
and took 3 months to heal because it re-opens every time you go poop. The biggest problems I've had is not the medication, it works great. Rather the social stigma and reluctance of fearful Dr.'s due to the DEA cracking down. Unfortunately those of us who need opiates to absorb the nutrients from our food suffer as a result as they often just lump us together with and assume we are drug-seekers. Such a lame law, alchohol is much worse, tincture doesn't seem to have any long term effects physiologically, just the problems I mentioned with it being controlled and stigmatized. People who look down on its use need to try having diarrhea and sleep loss everyday of their life for at least a decade plus a few cuts on the anus before they start judging. It's indicated for severe, chronic diarrhea by the Gastro associations yet Dr.s are stricken with fear. I'm still searching for a Dr. who will prescribe tincture as my Colorectal surgeons and Gastro's admit they are afraid to prescribe it. Yet, here I am suffering and treated disrespectfully simply because I want to absorb my food and sleep through the night w/o waking up soaked in diarrhea (as I have thousands of times since my surgery at age 16).
