Toddler mucus stool

Over six months ago, my 2 and a half years old son, had diarreah (diarrhea) for two weeks, while in Cuba. Stool tests came back negative. Since then I have occasionally seen little mucus in his stool. Last 4-5 weeks the mucus is consistent (less than a tea spoon). He shows no other symptoms, has a bow movement  of normal consistency and color, 1-2 times daily) (especially after eliminating dairy products which made his stool dark and dry). Is this a sign of collitis? Is this something I should be concerned about? Is it possible that this mucus is draining from his sinuses? He seams congested, but does not have a runny nose.
thanks
