Too much fiber too soon?

Too much fiber too soon?

Hello all,

I recently increased my fiber intake with a fiber supplement for reasons I won't get into. I went from a very low fiber diet (I don't eat many fruits or vegetables at all) to taking two fiber supplement pills daily starting last week.

Each fiber pill contains .52g of psylium seed husk and I was taking two of these a night for five days until I started to feel awful and thought it might be too much fiber.

It really made me regular, I went from 3-4 bowel movements a day to only 1 in the morning, but I started to feel very queasy, lethargic and light headed at different times during the day. I stopped taking the fiber on Tuesday and I still feel crummy and it's Thursday.

My question is, could this be the result of too much fiber too soon? Did I shock my body going from a diet that was nearly void of fiber to too much fiber all at once?

I'd like to feel better and stop feeling queasy and wondering if this will stop once my body adjusts back to my normal non fiber diet.
