Topical acne gel safe for UC sufferer?

Topical acne gel safe for UC sufferer?

I've been suferring from a bad flare up recently, which has luckily just come to an end. This wasn't the most severe flare up in terms of adominal (abdominal) pain and sickness, but it certainly has been the most prolonged and stressful, -it's now mid April and it began back in Sept last year. That normal for everyone else? I think it had a lot to do with stress as I have started my first job after university, have moved a couple of times as well, (I live in London, no one has the same address for long); also develop IBS which is good fun, and my trigger food appears to be chocolate. Why me!

I've never suffered from acne before, and now in my twenties I look like a teenager! My GP has prescribed 'clindamycin with benzoyl peroxide gel 1%' to apply once at night. She obviously missed the connection with my UC, as I notice that there is relatively strong advice not to use this product/ antibiotics if you have IBD.

It is a gel as opposed to tablets, so I'm wondering if it'll be ok if I make a conscious effort to eat more probiotic, live-culture yogurts, milk etc.

Anyone got any experiences to share? I guess I'm a moderate sufferer of UC, and my most recent flare up was confined to the lower part of my rectum only. Lovely.

Thanks
Livi
