Tortuous Colon Constipation Help

I just was diagnosed with a tortuous colon after months of agony from constipation and a lifetime of general gastrointestinal issues.  I'm only 31 and would prefer not to have surgery...I heard it is very risky and last resort only.  I've been told to take Colace and Miralax.  I'm still having issues, although not nearly as bad as before I started the Colace.  Some days or half days I'm fine and then back to the pain again.

What are some other remedies people have tried?  I know about more water and exercise and do this.  I'm getting contradictory advice with fiber.  My doc says it's just backing me up more, but the web is pushing it and pushing it for constipation.

At the emergency room my stool sample was nothing but clear mucous and I'm very gassy.  I have a bit of color in my stool now, but usually it just comes out as colored mucous or liquidy/ mucousy stool.  Seems like more Colace is not good if your stool is liquidy...but I am totally confused.

Please give me any advice.  I'm sick of this!

Both Colace and Miralax are stool softeners, you need to remove one (I suggest the Colace) and add one for motility.  Fiber is good in moderation, you just have to be careful not to consume too much as it then causes constipation.  I would try increasing the dosage of your Miralax, until you find what works best for you.  Increase it little by little until you reach a point where you can keep your stool moving.  Miralax is not habit forming and sometimes you have to play around with the dosage to get the best results.
Hope this helps.

I feel your pain. I've been constipated since I was 11. I found out months ago that I too had a Tortuous Colon, however my gastro didn't tell me that. I had to read about it in his dictated report. Hum, don't you think he should have told me? For years, I would take just about every laxative on the market and I've gotten to the point where nothing works anymore. I had my primary physician put me on the prescription Miralax ($10 copay beats $40 in the stores). It worked wonders, but now it stopped working again. Things work for a week or two, then stop. I'm in so much pain in the top portion of my stomach. I know I'm backed up, but I can't seem to get things moving. My last primary doctor told me to take mylanta, which I did and it worked, but once again, I'm all stopped up and nothing is working. Not Amatiza, Miralax, or Metamucial. I can't take Mag Citrate, because it makes me want to puke and then my butt is so raw. Is there anything we can do for this damn condition?
