I have had more than 20 years of digestive issues including multiple surgeries, obstructions, GERD, IBD, adhesions and the list goes on and on. After dealing with several years of pain, I began having extremely painful
bowel movement, even if the stool was loose. There was bleeding at times. I went back to my GI doc who ordered a colonoscopy. I went in yesterday for it, and was given the max dosage of meds possible and was still awake writhing in pain. When i awoke in recovery
, they told me I had to have another exam asap, called a CT colography. Apparantly I was diagnosed with a torturous colon. He said it was so bad, they couldn't navigate the scope barely at all and with my history, this was a concern. Does anyone else have this? and if so, did you require surgery? My concern is that I will not only need surgery, but that it would require a colostomy
I am not a doctor ,so I am sorry about how you feel get a Doctor that you trust and one who treats your condition that is my advise yours truly Tammie250
Genie, typically a tortuous colon is one that is slightly longer than normal and due to that, it can twist and turn a heck of a lot more than a 'normal' colon. It can cause a fair
number of problems depending on the length and what portion is 'redundant.' Some people do have surgery for the issues and it doesn't typically result in a colostomy
. Depending on the location, the length and the vasculature into that area of the colon, they would remove the redundant part and take the two ends and 'stick them back together' so that the colon will function as normal.
Hello,
I had to have ressection rectopexy to fix my colon because my twisted colon which was undiagnosed for years led to internal prolapse. It was a difficult surgery to go through but hopefully should help. You would need to see a colon-rectal specialist for this.
