Treating a Gastric Ulcer - How long before the symptoms go away?

by malap, Jan 17, 2008 08:10PM
I have been diagnosed with a gastric ulcer (caused by 15-months use of naproxen).

I have been on Protonix 40mg 1/day since Dec 30 (19 days ago) and I have noticed that the frequency of nausea and ulcer pains were lower after a few days.

However, my nausea episodes still occur after eating a meal that was too big, but I can now have a relative control over this issue if I eat 5 smal meals during the day.

I also still feel pain on my right side at times.  The pain is bearable (maybe a 2 on a scale of 10), but I was under the assumption (or perhaps just hoping) that both symptoms (nausea and ulcer pain) would be eradiated a week or so after beginning my treatment.

How long can I expect to still have the symptoms?

Am I just too impatient, or should I consult my GI and ask for different/stronger prescriptions?

Thank you!
