Twisted colon

Twisted colon

Hi, I have a twisted colon on the left side of my lower bowel. For the past 4 months I have had burning sensations and throbbing pain in that part of my colon, and in my lower left pelvic region as well. I also have had a UTI those 4 months, which will not go away. I'm doing everything I can possibly do (water, cranberry pills, DanActive) and I've been taking a medicine called Nitrofurantoin for about 2 months which seems to make the symptoms worse. A couple years ago I had the bacteria called C. Diff. and I'm wondering if maybe it is returning with the antibiotics in my system, because it is changing the flora in the gut. Although, my bowel movements seem normal...I'm seeing a urologist but am not sure whether to go to my gastroenterologist as well. I don't want to become very ill again, but I'm thinking that will happen if the doctors don't take enough action.

I also have a twisted colon, and for me it causes constipation.  But this problem has been very insidious, partly because of all the old wives' tales I heard growing up.

Example:  Only elderly people and people taking narcotics get seriously constipated for physical reasons.  For anybody else, it's all in their heads.  WRONG!

MiraLax is a different kind of laxative that keeps everything moving and loose enough to pass through a twisted colon.

Not treating constipation can lead to hemorrhoids, diverticulosis/diverticulitis, and for me, a painful compression of the anterolateral cutaneous nerve as it passes through the pelvis.  This caused lightening-like pains down the outer front of my left thigh.  I realized it was caused by constipation when it went away after bowel prep for colonoscopy!  Using MiraLax daily keeps it away, and I had suffered with daily stabs of severe pain for 15 years.

Thanks for your advice. And you're right, anyone can have these problems.

I take FiberCon for constipation. Although as I posted, I don't have any constipation at this time, only pain and a hot throbbing sensation. It just feels as though that whole region is infected.

Im not a dr so i claim to know nothing for sure!! However with the UTI i suffer from them all the time, for various different reasons and let me tell you while water, cranberry juice etc helps it will not fix it, and will not rid you off it and if left untreated it can get worse and cause other problems. You need to get either a herbal remedy version that is aimed to treat things like [ignore spelling here] cystitus or even antibiotics for it [ though herbal is better if your on other medication ] I also drink something called URAL which is used to flush out UTI's it doesnt taste great but works wonders. Hope atleast some of this helps a little, i know how uncomfortable it can be. Get well soon!

Thanks a lot for your help Emma. I usually get answers from older women who tell me that I need to "drink more water, take cranberry pills, and keep the urethra clean." Obviously!! lol. I will try to find URAL in the US because Im not sure if we have it here. Having a bad UTI also affects my relationship with my boyfriend of 3 years because getting intimate can be painful at times. :( I hope you are doing ok with your symptoms. And again, thanks for being so sweet.

You might want to be tested for sexually transmitted things too.  There are some that cause similar discomfort but need specific antibiotics or other meds.  Not treating an infection like that can lead to PID (serious) and loss of fertility.

Ive been getting them for a long time they come and go, i get atleast one a year, and i completely know what your talking about my boyfriend calls it the black plague when i get it and i get so confused who i feel more sorry for him or me? After 5 years i have decided he can just deal, because i would rather go without sex than have to deal with the pain. and OMG older women giving me advice on how to not get them and what to do was so pointless that was what i did atfirst, and guess what grandma IT CAME BACK. you may not be able to get URAL in the states HOWEVER because it isnt a drug and more so a drink the chance you can get it online and its realtively cheap

http://www.epharmacy.com.au/product.asp?id=8190  [ this place has it, and i think they ship to the us ]

Also ill have a look for the tablet name that i use when i get home, because that is herbal based aswell and chances are you could probably be able to get that aswell. I used to get the symptoms alot, and since taking these two together i get them much less and they clear up alot faster, normally within atleast 5 to 6 days. Hope this helps XD
