UGI question on what was in the report

by maycas72, Sep 28, 2008 12:52AM
What does this mean, Duodenum traverses posteriorly rather than toward the usual location of the ligament of Treitz and tear to the stomach?

The duodenum follows a 'track' that swings it from the right side of the bellybutton over to the left side of your body and forward toward the front of the body. Where the last part of the duodenum meets the jejunum, it's 'hung' or suspended from a ligament (called the ligament of Treitz) that extends back toward the esophagus.

You'll have to ask your doc whether or not the more posterior location of the last part of the duodenum could cause problems. People often have a slightly different arrangement than 'normal' in their bodies, and it makes no difference in the functioning. In others, however, variations can cause problems.

And tear in the stomach? Is that the correct wording?

Thank you for the response. I do have a mal-rotation of my midgut and intestines so is that maybe it?
Yeah it says and tear to the stomach exact wording on the ugi report. What does that mean?
I have been in so much pain, to eat it kills me so bad. I had been telling doctors my stomach feels like its going to burst. I have been shoved off in my area for 2 years now everything is unbearable.
thanks again

A 'tear' means the doc needs to evaluate exactly what is going on and make some decisions on what to do. A tear is not a great thing. Contact your doc and ask some quesitons - like, 'what's next?'

I see the doctor today so I will ask them. What can a tear do? it also says the are no distinct landmarks to suggest continued presences of fundoplucation. And i have reflex moderately too. I do have a mid gut mal-rotation as well that no one found til i was 24 years old. They say I have severe dysmotility of the whole gi tract.

Thank you
