There are some people who can have both celiac problems and U.C. so if you do have gluten problems, it's going to make you more miserable in general.
I'm not sure whether is U.C. people who shouldn't eat gluten, but it appears that forms of microscopic colitis can be tied into gluten intolerance.
You could try a gluten-exclusion diet and see how you feel. If you feel better, then you might want to consider going gluten-free (no wheat, rye or barley) all the time.
