Unable to pass stool since gallbladder removal

Unable to pass stool since gallbladder removal

I have been constipated ever since I had my gallbladder removed on the 6th of May.
I took laxatives about 10 hours ago but have been unable to pass any stool.
I have been able to pass gas.
Should I be worried?
What else can I do?

Call your doctor.  Believe me, you don't want to fool around with constipation that goes this long-- it can tear you right up.  In general, eating a high fiber diet (whole grains, fresh vegetables like broccoli, leafy greens, etc) will help prevent constipation.  Drinking a lot of water will help prevent stool from getting too hard.  I don't know what laxatives you took, but I usually use senna tea for constipation.  It takes about 5-8 hours to work for me.  I would think over the counter meds would work faster, but perhaps if you check the container it will give you more information.
