I have suffered from unexplained pain in my lower left quadrant for approx 7 years now. I have been to Gastrointerologist, I spent 1 full week in Mayo Clinic and seeing a family
practicioner often due to the pain. The pain usually starts in the morning after drinking or eating something can be one thing today and something else tomorror. The same item may not do it the next time. The pain usually last for 2 hours and gets very severe. The pain is constant and not stabbing, goes from slight to severe and then slowly goes away over the two hour period. I have seen hypnotist at doctors recommendation to no avail. The pain gets so severe that I have begun getting nausious and brings tears due to severity of pain. I have been checked for the usual gastro problems and seems like I am a lost cause. Any suggestions appreciated.
Regarding the lower left quadrant pain, anytime I see the word "unexplained" or a string of words like "I'm not sure what it could be", I usually have an answer.
However, it's the answer that most people don't want to hear: get thyself (or family
member) to a doctor and FIND OUT what it is. If you have been to a couple doctors, see MORE doctors until you find out what the problem is.
Many of us can comment on how something feels, certain medications, and similar situations but unless one knows EXACTLY what the problem is, it cannot adequately be treated or responded to.
So, yes, the first line of attack, in my opinion, would be to see additional doctors or specialists and get a diagnosis and go from there.
Hi! I am no doctor as chronicpain2 wisely suggested you see but I do have a couple of suggestions for you.
Has anyone mentioned Adhesions to you? If you haven't had any surgeries, infections, hard blows or other injury to that area it's not very likely that you would have them. But like many conditions, it does sound familiar to me. But it might not hurt to mention this to your doctor. But as I said, unless you've any of the above happen to you, the likelihood is pretty slim.
My second is to keep a diary of your symptoms. Just mark down the date and time of when your pain started along with anything you ate or any activities. Try to rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being little to no pain and 10 being the worst pain you've ever experienced. Take this log with you when you see your doctor.
Have you been tested for food allergies? They can really mess you up. This is where your diary will come in handy.
Now do as chronicpain told you and go to the doctor the minute this starts up again.
