In September of 2008 my husband and I went out to dinner and both got sick from some food. We both had diahrrea and he felt fine the next day and it seems I never fully recovered.
For about a month I would become nauseated and queasy - no further diahrrea and I never threw up.
In October it got so bad I missed 2 days of work and went to the doctor. They first ruled out pregnancy. They were concerned about gall bladder so had an ultrasound done and that came back fine. Next did a stool sample and bloodwork; all was fine. Next step was the HIDA Scan - that came back with a 17% ejection rate so they sent me to a surgeon. Surgeon wasn't convinced it was my gall bladder based on my symptoms so sent me for a CT scan to check for liver lesions, cysts, etc. - that came back fine. Doctor did not want to do surgery. I was referred by the surgeon and my GP to go to a GI doctor. Went to the GI doctor and he was mystified. He did a colonoscopy in December and everything was 100% fine. My doctor, surgeon and GI doctor do not believe I have anything relating to Celiac or H Pylori
- my mother-in-law has celiac and my symptoms do not match either - especially based on the fact that it's not food triggers - I can feel nauseated whether I eat or not, and whether I eat gluten or not.
My complaints were: nausea throughout the day; sometimes worse when eating and sometimes not. Never vomitting. Only diahhrea one time after eating in September. Lots of stomach gas
and that worked for about 2 months then suddenly began making me dizzy and sick so my GI doctor took me off of it.
GI doctor prescribed me Prilosec even though i do not have heartburn symptoms; but if I wasn't taking it I'd get nauseated so I am currently taking it 4 months after GI doctor prescribed. Now I'm afraid to not take Prilosec. GI doctor put me on 2 courses of Flora-Q pro-biotic did not seem to have much effect. GI doctor prescribed 1 month of an antibiotic to clean up anything in my system and help with gas
Doctors are suspicious that in September I did get something from food but by time I began being tested it worked itself out of my system therefore never came up on tests; but caused some lingering effects.
GI doctor told me to follow up in a year. He said that since I was improving as of last follow up in March to expect that I will have gas
(even though I told him I never was a gassy person before) and that I would have good days and bad days. Here it is April and for the most part I was feeling good until about 2 weeks ago when it started again.
I've been suspicious that this could be a result of post-nasal drip from allergies - I have heard alot of people say that it causes them nausea, vomitting and feeling crummy. I have a vaporizer in my room for that, take allergy meds, do a sinus rinse and do what I can to help it.
Today I feel terrible. I feel very bloated and very queasy. It feels like 6 months ago when I was feeling this crummy.
I have read all kinds of boards for months and have googled symptoms, been on all kinds of boards and posted questions and done research. Many people are in the same boat as me; had all the same tests done and same symptoms of gas, distensation, some nausea, no vomitting or diahrea and no resolutions and having the same tests. I don't know if I have to resort to a life like this and just accept the fact that I will always have gas and occasionally have nausea. I still force myself to eat when I'm nauseated.
I do not overeat. I am in good health and physical shape. I work out 4-5 days a week and do cardio and weight training. I am not overweight and eat a balanced diet. I have tried keeping a food journal and that has yielded nothing as it doesn't relate to food. Thankfully for the most part I'm not nauseated since November but the past few days have been bad. I truly do wonder if it's post nasal drip. I have a follow up with my ENT on Monday and I will be addressing this again. In the meantime I just want to be myself again and stop going to doctors. I haven't done anything further regarding my stomach; I just accept the feelings of gas and accept the occasional nausea I have.
Anyone have any suggestions that my doctors and I might have overlooked in 5-6 months? Some people were dealing with this for 2-3 years with no luck so at least I know I'm not alone.
