Unpleasant Odor

by whoopsydaisy, Jan 18, 2003 12:00AM
This may sound humurous, but I am a concerned 15 year old.  I take a shower twice a day, and make sure to clean my genital and my anus and the surrounding areas thoroughly.  Although I wash, there is a noticeable smell coming from the anus.  It smells as if i actually **** in my pants.

I also have a gas problem, and it seems i far uncontrollably.  On several occasions, i have held farts in (or at least tried to) and an odor still develops.  I have been hearing comments like, "Who ripped one?" and they are always around me.  I want to know what kind of a problem I have because even when I make to fart, the smell always is with me unless I manage to clench myself through a 30 minute class.  Any possible ways to prevent this or the smell that is emitted from my anus?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The smell is produced by fermentation of food by intestinal flora, you may have inappropriate flora, or more seriously it could be bacterial overgrowth of the small intestine which is associated with odour / halitosis. Did the symptoms come on gradually ? have you any other symptoms such as fatigue , alternating constipation with diarrhea , slow transit digestion? Anything you can think of that preceded the symptoms/

But is there a way to fix the problem?  I don't want to be walking around with gas underwear for the rest of my life.

You will need to ask your doctor for a stool analysis ,see this web site

Unfortunately ,most doctors have never heard of small bowel bacterial overgrowth! So search on google  http://www.tiscali.co.uk/l1external/cgi-bin/l1external.cgi?http://www.fiso.co.uk/search_the_web.htm
for the condition look for credible medical sites & then show the information to your doctor see if you can reason it through with him/her . good luck .

I think the first thing to check for is lactose-intolerance.
It's pretty easy to test and very common..

I had the same thing as a young girl. Try eliminating onions from your diet. My mother was a huge onion fan and I think it caused an allergy. Anyway, it's worth a try. Good luck.

Foul odors emanating from your skin can often be caused by certain allergic reactions.  We have a dog with such a problem.  I know dogs are different from humans in many ways, but it's a strong possibility.  When she eats foods she is allergic to, her skin and especially her ears smell very bad.  Perhaps you should look into this.  There are many potential foods and chemicals that can cause allergy, including some of the 'healthful foods' like soy.  A few telltale signs of food allergy and prolongued exposure to these offending foods include but are not limited to:

*ecxema and dermatitis
*severe itching all over the body
*athsma
*rheumatoid arthritis
*IBS-type symptoms (particularly diarrhea)
*watery eyes
*runny nose, often with purulent mucus discharge

Note that these symptoms are in no way exclusive to food allergy.  Food allergy/sensitivity also tends to become much more common with age.  Don't take my word for it, though.  If you suspect food allergy, or are just at wit's end, then visiting a specialist regarding allergies might be recommended.

Also, olonic cleansing doesn't have much benefit (the talk about autointoxication is nonsense.  There's no 'tarry or crusty buildup' in the colon...  Endoscopic images of a colon that has not been evacuated is proof of this.  In fact, colonic irrigation can be quite dangerous.  As we all know, back in the days of old they would administer medicine and fluids rectally to patients who were too sick to keep food or water down (or who were in a coma)  The same goes with the entire colon.  If you engorge it with water, the colon will soak it up like a sponge.  In rare cases, the fluid overload is so severe that it's fatal.)  Of course, many of you have already ruled that out...
