Upper Right Abdominal Discomfort and back ache

For the past three weeks, I have experienced mild upper right abdominal discomfort and now I am experiencing right lower back aches.  It all started with one day of nausea and vomitting and mild discomfort especially when I'm lying down.  My kidney and liver enzymes were normal and my blood tests came back normal except that my white blood cell count was low.  The ultrasound was also normal.  They incidentally found that I had a mild urinary tract infection which I have beent treating, but I still feel that same discomfort.

I'm so sorry you are experiencing this discomfort.  Not all problems have elevated liver functions and not everything shows up on ultrasound.  People with Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (SOD), for example, do not necessarily have elevated liver functions and SOD doesn't show up on ultrasound.  It is, of course, very rare but it's just an example of something that doesn't fit that pattern.  

If you continue to have pain a week after you finish your antibiotics for your urinary tract infection (UTI), you might need a different antibiotic or a longer course.  UTIs can cause wicked pain in your back and abdomen.  

If you find you still have discomfort after a month, you might want to request an appointment with a skilled Gastroenterologist.  For many problems, endoscopic ultrasound is the only test.  It is done under twilight sedation but it might save you from going through a dozen other invasive tests.
